Botanography

Environmental justice begins with environmental literacy and children. It is a foundation of our ability to cope with climate change, planning for the future of our urban, sub-urban, and rural environments, and addressing social justice in primary, secondary, and university education.

Botanography is concerned with pedagogy, how botany and ecology is taught, and aspires to redesign Philadelphia schools as botanical gardens.

@mirandaemote is looking forward to speaking at the March club meeting of The Garden Club of Wilmington at Winterthur’s Brown Education Center on March 10. I will be narrating a history of nature printing in Philadelphia and New York, describing my own nature prints, and Botanography’s work in developing environmental literacy in children, including pedagogy, teaching games, and garden classrooms. Botanical Autopsies, an exhibit about the people and plants of the Non-Catholic Cemetery for Foreigners in Rome, April 4 - May 2. Working on final details of my prints and botanical installations in the Autopsy Room at the cemetery. The exhibition will highlight plants of the cemetery and the influence of African American Sarah Parker Remond as a political activist for racial and gender emancipation. She died in Rome and was buried in the cemetery in 1894. #amacademyrome #botano_graphy #natureprinting #romeexhibition #sarahparkerremond

In celebration of the Pinus pinea trees of Rome, the children of the Academy made paper from pine leaves and then printed leaves from pines and other trees found on the Janiculum Hill of Rome. The paper smells of the fresh musky scent of pine and the prints look at the canopy of Rome leaf by leaf. @amacademyrome @mirandaemote
